Why fleets in Tamale track their vehicles
Tamale is the Northern Region's capital and its trading centre, home to 374,744 people at the 2021 census. Much of the city moves by tricycle and motorbike, and many of those are owned by one person and ridden by another.
Riders on two and three wheels carry the most risk. The National Road Safety Authority reported that of the two- and three-wheelers in crashes from January to May 2025, 73 percent were motorcycles and 24 percent tricycles.
Tamale also sits on the transit corridor from Tema Port to Paga and Burkina Faso. In April 2026 a Burkinabe delegation raised the checkpoints and the lack of rest areas along that road with Ghana's government, the kind of long run where an owner wants to see every stop.
